    2009 coming to an end
Tinni: Well it's New Year Eve, which means 2009 is coming to an end. It's not been the best year for me. I feel like I have made very little progress and it has gone by so, so fast. I mean, I was really hoping to have submitted my thesis by now but it didn't happen. It's still linger on. I submitted three conference papers but all of them got rejected, which was not fun. I feel like I have haemorrhaged money all year with unexpected spendings cropping up all over the place. But I must admit that right at this exact moment in time I am in a fairly good financial position. So the losses of the year are going to be left with the year.

Ecthelion: ... You speak as if you didn't make impulsive and big purchases this year, as well as big purchases that were necessary.

Tinni: Yes but the point is its all paid off now!

Ecthelion: ... mostly yes, I'll give you that. But you also don't have much savings left.

Tinni: I know but at least I have solid stuff I can point to to explain the lack of savings. It's not when you sit around wondering what you spent your money on. But the point is that while I do have more stuff from the beginning of the year, as well as more investment in the form of shares, I also have another semester to add to my teach experience and I have completed 1 out of 4 subjects for my Graduate Certificate in Commercialisation. Then there was the Japan trip! Which I am glad for because that was something really nice and made 2009 a little more memorable. It really has been a lackluster year. I am happy enough to leave it behind. I mean, looking back I just remember being tired and sick all the time. So goodbye 2009, hello 2010!

    Goals for 2010,

    1. Submit thesis!

    2. Get a job overseas.

    3. Try not to be as tired and sick all the time.

    4. Visit a country I am yet to go to.

    5. Resume learning to play the keyboard

    Tinni: That's pretty much it.

Glorfindel: Now *cracks whip* get back to work!

    Another thing off the list!
One of the things to do on my 101 in 1001 days list was to knit something for my dad - for Christmas I knit him a stripped scarf to go with his fancy coat. He quite liked it though I haven't seen in it action yet. Here is a photo for proof.

Things I have decided never to buy again
Shower gels, body lotions or anything else from L'occitane en provence! It's not that I don't like their products but I hate the cheap plastic they use to package their products. To date I have had three shower gel bottles shatter when they accidentally dropped on the bathroom floor. One slipped from my hands while I was showering, the others accidentally got knocked off or some other reason. They all shattered and emptied their content on the floor! Given how much L'occitane products costs, I really can't afford to buy them when I lose nearly whole bottles of the stuff while using them as intended, in the shower, where it's slippery!

I also had a bottle of body lotion crack on me. I can't even remember how it happened but it didn't exactly take a lot of force. Fortunately the bottled only cracked on one side and I didn't lose all the lotion in the bottle. I am still using that bottle in fact, I just have to keep it on it's side and becareful when I am getting the lotion out. It's all very silly and not worth the trouble. No more L'occitane for me!

Another thing I have decided never to buy is, bags from Nine West. I only have one but the quality of it is so poor that the price I paid for it feels like a total rip-off. I mean, I bought that bag chiefly for use during travel because of the numerous zip sections it has. However, not only has the silver colour of the bag started peel off despite not seeing a lot of use (I must have used the bag for two months in total over a period of about two years), the zipper of the main section has started to give trouble! Seriously, no!

Ecthelion: I keep telling you, high price tag doesn't mean better quality. Sometimes you just pay for the perceived prestige.

Tinni: Well it isn't prestigious if it's crap! I demand prestigious things actually being good!

Ecthelion: I don't think that's how fashion works.

    Tinni: Bah!

    [L.U.] still bitter...
I think I may have falsely accused the zucchini.

I had a bitter taste at the back of my mouth all day and night yesterday, and it's still present today. It finally got so aggravating that I google'd it. To my surprise, half the hits talked about taste disturbance as a side effect of eating pine nuts. Symptoms present as a bitter/unpleasant taste at the back of the throat starting 1 to 3 days after eating pine nuts. I ate a handful of pine nuts on Wednesday so now I'm wondering if that's it.

In any case, the poor leftover zucchini got garburated and it may have been innocent all along.

    [L.U.] cooking woes
Never again will I buy zucchini that is not in season. I bought a zucchini on impulse, hoping to make some zucchini latkes and as they came out of the pan they just tasted worse and worse. I ended up garburating the end of my batch because they were so intensely bitter.

I am a bit more optimistic that my kale chips will turn out better.
